In April 2024, GreenIron was granted the environmental permit for its first commercial production site in Sandviken, Sweden. Construction began shortly thereafter and was completed in early 2025. Commissioning followed throughout 2025, and in January 2026 the site entered commercial production.
Sandviken marks an important milestone for GreenIron as our first operational facility and a proof point for our reduction technology at industrial scale.
The initial focus is on recycling residual oxidised scale and filter dust generated in steel production processes. These materials represent a high-value recycling opportunity and are well suited to GreenIron’s technology. At the same time, the flexibility of our reduction process technology enables the treatment of a broad range of metals and minerals, creating multiple future use cases.

GreenIron is pursuing a focused roll-out strategy, starting with applications where both profitability and material availability are particularly strong. Oxidised scale and filter dust in the Nordic region represent an attractive first step in this strategy.
Due to site-specific space and infrastructure constraints, the Sandviken facility operates at a lower production capacity than our future sites. However, it plays a critical role in validating our technology, building operational experience, and supporting the scale-up of GreenIron’s next production facilities.
