GreenIron appoints Mathias Tillman as new CEO

GreenIron, a pioneer in fossil-free metal production, is taking the next step in its development by appointing Mathias Tillman as its new CEO.
Tillman succeeds Edward Murray, co-founder of the company, who has led GreenIron through its formative and early growth phase.
Edward Murray, who founded GreenIron in 2018 together with his father Hans Murray, will continue to serve as a member of the Board and act as a strategic advisor to the new CEO.
“It has been an incredible journey, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve built. Passing the baton to Mathias feels completely right – both in terms of timing and the person. With his extensive experience from the global steel industry, he is exactly the right person to take GreenIron into the next phase and continue our journey to becoming a new force in Swedish industry with real impact,” says Edward Murray.
Mathias Tillman brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the international steel industry, most recently as Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing at Ovako. He has also held a number of international leadership roles at Sandvik, with postings in the UK, China and Taiwan.
“GreenIron has tremendous potential to make a real difference in the steel and mining industries – sectors I know well,” says Mathias Tillman. “It feels both inspiring and meaningful to join at this stage, to get to know the team, our customers and partners, and to help take the company to the next level. I look forward to contributing my experience and network, and to working together with the team to build on the strong foundation already in place – supporting circularity and reducing CO₂ emissions in global industry.”
GreenIron’s patented technology enables fossil-free metal reduction using hydrogen. The company’s first commercial facility, located in Sandviken, Sweden, is currently in the final stages of commissioning.
GreenIron is backed by investors including FAM, Almi Invest GreenTech, and Longrun Capital.
Since March 2025, Lotta Lyrå has served as Chair of the Board.
“Edward and the team have done a fantastic job getting GreenIron to where it is today. Under Mathias’s leadership, we gain a strong industrial leader with deep experience in building international businesses. With scalable technology, a sustainable offering, and a global market, GreenIron has all the potential to become a modern Swedish industrial classic,” says Lotta Lyrå, Chair of the Board.
